Coffee with friends in Zhuhai

Had coffee this morning at Pizza Hut (yep) with two friends in China -  Zhang Jie and Jumbo He. Wonderful men. Wonderful friends. I'm indebted to them for anything we've accomplished in southern China. - Luke Fetters

Very nice evening in Huntington!

This evening Susanna, Anna and Jessica treated Kim and I to dinner. After dinner, a couple of our friends stopped by for fruit and a visit. It was fun listening to the group talk about their experiences teaching and learning about each other's culture. - Charlie

Chan Kaiwai

I had lunch with Chen Kaiwai and his parents today. Our old friend, Jumbo He, introduced Kaiwai to us. Kaiwai will likely enroll in our Intensive English Program at HU in January! - Luke

Ready to go!

8 am Tuesday - I'm sitting in a coffee shop beside the school, and it just started pouring again. That being said, we've received the green light to start camp at 2:00 PM tomorrow (Wednesday). The crew will all meet at the school at 9:00 AM to get everything set up.  Today was a good enforced sabbath for me, but I'm itching to get at it tomorrow. - Luke

Thank you so much, McConnells!

The TEFL class drove to Michigan to visit Luke's hometown, see Lake Michigan and do some shopping at the outlets.

Out for lunch!

Davan and I headed out for a bite of lunch at the noodle shop across from the school. Things seem to be opening up after the storm.  Hopefully the camp will begin sometime on Wednesday! - Luke

Typhoon Update

8 pm Monday - Reports are that Typhoon Nida made landfall about 100 kilometers northeast of Hong Kong.  We are 30 or 40 kilometers further removed here in Zhuhai. We had lots of wind and rain overnight, but all is well. Hoping for it to blow on out of here quickly. - Luke

Typhoon Nida

Monday 7 am. Typhoon Nida is approaching southern Guangdong Province. Having lived in this region of the world for over a decade, I've ridden out many typhoons. We'll be fine. The team members are safely cared for in modern buildings with their host families.  The storm should be pretty much passed by 2:00 AM Tuesday morning (EST).  We'll get the camp rolling as soon as the typhoon signals are lowered.  Be thinking about the team as they experience this new adventure with their host families!

No rain right now. - Luke Fetters

Zhuhai camp postponed

2:30 am Monday August 1. Because of an impending typhoon, the Zhuhai English Camp has been postponed. It hasn't started raining yet.  Join us in hoping the typhoon either heads another direction or passes quickly. The team members are all safely set up in host homes. Davan is with me at the school. We're running errands and getting ready for the camp to start whenever we get the all clear.

Hong Kong

The teacher training team spent the day in HK sightseeing. Some of us got to see our friend, Julie Hui, an HU TESOL masters degree grad from Hong Kong.

Bill got to hang out with the girls today. He was a trooper!

Zhongshan Last Day

The team had dinner with our host, Terry Zhang and Dr. Choi. Luke sent the teaching team off to Hong Kong Friday night, and he will stay with the remaining HU students for the Zhuhai Camp.
